Friends of Mel
On Saturday, September 15, 2012, The Friends of Mel Foundation will be holding a conference, The ART OF LIVING-Life Beyond Cancer, for people facing life after cancer treatment. See registration details here! http://friendsofmel.mybigcommerce.com/conference-registration/
The Friends of Mel Foundation, located in Hingham, Massachusetts, was founded in memory of Mel Simmons, a dynamic woman who lost her battle to breast cancer in 2005. Throughout her journey with cancer, she touched the lives of many cancer patients and their caregivers. This local organization raises funds with colorful beaded bracelets that are now worn proudly by over six hundred thousand women worldwide.
The mission of Friends of Mel is to empower people who have been touched by cancer. Their goal is to find creative and promising projects that impact patient care at both the grass root and institutional levels. To date, nearly $3,000,000 has been gifted to programs that support their mission.
In March of 2012, the Friends of Mel Foundation partnered with Oncology Rehab Partners to develop the Massachusetts Cancer Rehab Initiative, which focuses on bringing evidence-based cancer rehabilitation medicine to Massachusetts healthcare facilities through the STAR Program® Certification.
As part of the initiative, Friends of Mel Foundation committed to providing partial STAR Program funding to the first six healthcare facilities in Massachusetts that register. In addition to the funding, participating facilities benefit from marketing and publicity around the initiative.
If your organization is interested in being a part of this initiative, contact Oncology Rehab Partners at 508-393-4600 or info@oncrehab.com.
