FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Oncology Rehab Partners Announces New Discipline Specific Cancer Rehabilitation Training for Physical Therapists
Oncology Rehab Partners, an innovative healthcare company with a mission to improve survivorship care, has announced the launch of new discipline specific training for physical therapists. The first module in this new training is titled STAR Program® Continuing Education Module on Physical Therapy Management of the Patient with Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy.

This 2 hour module, written and vetted by physical therapists who are experts in cancer rehabilitation care, addresses the functional impact and physical therapy management of CIPN in cancer survivors. Information presented will include a description of CIPN with respect to incidence, patient demographics, possible causes, signs and symptoms and associated chemotherapeutic agents. Systematic and research-validated instruments that have been proven useful to the physical therapist for the screening, diagnosis and treatment of functional impairments linked to peripheral neuropathy are recommended. Finally, the module will provide recommendations for evidence-based best physical therapy practices that have been proven to be effective in treating or minimizing the adverse functional impact CIPN on survivor quality of life.

STAR Program Certification provides healthcare facilities and clinicians with the tools (education and training, and evaluation and treatment protocols) to develop and deliver state-of-the-art cancer rehabilitation services to survivors who suffer the side effects and after effects of treatments – whether they are in remission, living with cancer or cured. All of the services integrated in the STAR Program Certification, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, mental health counseling, and consultations with rehabilitation medicine physicians (physiatrists), are typically covered by health insurance.

“We are excited to expand our offerings to include discipline specific training.” said Oncology Rehab Partners’ cofounder Dr. Julie Silver, an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School, and herself a cancer survivor. “We will be developing more discipline specific training for physical therapists, because the initial response to this module has been very positive.”
